Did You Ever . . . ?

Did you ever want to fly?
Do you think that if you try
You could step into the sky?
Could you kiss your fears good-bye,
Rhyme words that end in "i,"
And never have to die?

Did you ever fear you'd fall?
Do you think that you would sprawl
And no longer care at all?
Would you lose each ounce of gall,
Let your roar become a bawl,
And always have to crawl?

Did you ever fear you're slime?
Would you coat your dreams with grime
And sell them for a dime?
Would you compromise your rhyme,
Send your skill years back in time,
Make a poem become a crime?
